Welcome to Halliwell Country Inn
Country Living since 1838
“Think back to around 1837, 10 years after the slaying of Shaka, the founder of the Zulu nation by his half brother Dingane, now chieftain of the Zulus. Fast forward nearly 185 years and this once fortified homestead now commands a space of pure relaxation and indulgence. An open space, with commanding views of the Karkloof Valley with wide, open botanical gardens and a haven of calm and relaxation”
Wedding Venue
Halliwell Country Inn, with it’s original homestead dating back to the 1830’s, was originally a fortified wagon stop. Our chapel was originally a “Smithy” where wagons were repaired and horses shod.
Today we reflect a picturesque country hotel set on 250 acres of open lawns and incredible views of the Karkloof Valley. Our neighbours, the Halliwell Rest Home for Horses, ensure a constant view of these beautiful animals enjoying the beautiful pastures and fresh air on offer.
Restaurant
Our restaurant, Lemon and Lavender, opened its doors on the 05th June 1991. Our team is led by head chef Riaan Van Der Walt as well as his Sous Chef, Pretty Mpangase, a Curry’s Post local who has lived here her whole life. Our vision for our space is simple, to provide the freshest ingredients native to the Midlands and Curry’s Post, in a format that our guests find most comfortable and fitting to the purpose of their visit. Thank you for being a part of our 188-year old journey.
