Old Halliwell is an historical landmark dating back to 1830’s when the first structure was built as a fortified wagon stop leading into the wild interior and our chapel was a Smithy where carriages were repaired and horses shod. Today Old Halliwell is a 4 star County Inn and working farm set on an elevated site of 250 acres with rolling lawns and forest overlooking the magnificent Karkloof Valley and incorporates the “Old Halliwell Rest Home for Horses”. The peace and tranquility of Old Halliwell where the air is clean and the water is pure, will take you far away from the hustle and bustle of city life and help you experience the charms of a bygone era, but with all the modern conveniences.

Remember that we are a well established 4 star country Inn and farm so we have all the usual facilities such as accommodation, restaurant, bar, smoking lounge, swimming pool etc and therefore can cater for all your before and after wedding requirements and with 17 years of wedding experience you’ll be in excellent hands, we are here to help you!
From small intimate gatherings to extravagant celebrations of 300 guests or more, Old Halliwell has the venue just for you.

Garden Ceremony’s: 250 acres of lawn, beautiful well established gardens a photographers dream. Large trees, forest & paddocks with great views of the Karkloof valley below, garden ceremonies prove to be extremely popular. However they are weather dependent. Our venue allow’s for all contingencies, so if a garden ceremony is what you want but the weather turns foul on the day we can use the chapel, if canopies and beverages were to be served at the poolside gazebo we can switch to the hotel dining room if available or the cosy pub. Our venue price will allow for changes relating to weather at no additional cost.
The Chapel: Can be used for the ceremony and can seat 120 guests with standing room for another 30 guests.

Main Venue: This high roofed light and airy insulated building with a clear 450 square meters of wooden floor space, has it’s own kitchen, bar, ample toilets, heated if required and can be partitioned off to cater from 45 to 350 guests depending on your requirements. The hall has draped areas and windows with fairy lights built into the ceiling, variable lighting to create the right effects as the reception progresses and excellent acoustics. The standard décor in both the chapel and Main venue is certainly adequate, however provision is made for the easy addition of more elaborate draping, bunting, lighting etc.

  • 1. 8 meter Round tables and standard ancona chairs with white covers
  • Use of chapel’s benches, lectern, carpet for the aisle
  • Use of the Bridal day room for you and your bridesmaids to get ready
  • Complimentary honeymoon suite & breakfast for the bridal couple – subject to availability
  • Glasses & Barmen for 8 hours
  • Account or cash bar in the main venue, no other cool drinks or liquor allowed on site but clients may bring their own wine/champagne for a corkage charge of R55 per 750 mil bottle.

Smaller Weddings or luncheons that fall below 40 and can be held in our chapel, dining room or gazebo would have to be quoted accordingly.

Venue rates are based on an 8 hour wedding (this period commences  from the time the ceremony is due to start), for afternoon weddings if they exceed midnight there will be an hourly fee of R1,350.00 (or portion thereof) for every hour past midnight.

We will endeavor to have the Venue available from 7am to 6pm the day before your wedding to allow for set up.

We have a list of highly experienced professionals all eager to help you with the following:

Planning & co ordination, Wedding cake, Music, including DJ’s, Musicians or bands, Minister, Chaplin or Marriage Officers, Flower arrangements and bouquets, Draping, fairy lights and décor, Hair & make up & Photography and videographer.
However should you have your own preferred supplier you are welcome to use them.

Catering – We have 2 options

Option 1 – House Caterers

Catering by our expert and highly professional caterers who supply an array of delightful dishes for you to choose from either plated or buffet, our menus start from R295 per person, weddings of 150 or more depending on menu choice could be eligible for a reduced rate per person.

Our menu price also includes:

  • Standard crockery & cutlery
  • Table cloths in white/cream/black/silver or white & gold with matching linen napkins.
  • 4 x cocktail tables and cloths at the pool for juice/canopies, Buffet display, portioning of wedding cake, cruet sets for the tables
  • Waitrons for 8 hours
  • Set up and break down.
  • We can supply list of wonderful dishes that we know go well at weddings and what we do suggest is for you to put together your ideal menu from these dishes and let us quote accordingly.
  • We do get requests for special dietary or ethnic menus, where caterers specializing in these fields may be preferable, should you wish to go this route please discuss further with us.


Old Halliwell has large, comfortable guest rooms, all leading in from the garden with open fireplaces and private verandahs overlooking the Karkloof Valley.

We have a total of 14 rooms, which will sleep up to 32 guests although extra beds may be added and some rooms do sleep 4 and our Valley suits have spa baths. All of our room rates include breakfast.
There is also a number of other accommodation establishments within a short drive of Old Halliwell.
Baby sitters are available upon request.

Breakages Deposit

A R1,500.00 deposit is required and held to cover any breakages & damage to linen, property etc or to cover plating charge if number of guests increase by day of wedding this is refunded or part there of 14 days after wedding date.

Payment Terms

To secure your booking date for the venue we require R9,000.00 which is a non-refundable deposit. It is advisable to secure your venue date early.
Confirmation of final number of guests, balance of venue and plating charge including the breakages deposit of R1,500.00 is to be paid no later than 21 days prior to wedding date. This is critical to the smooth running of the wedding. Late or delayed payments are not allowed.

It is advisable to book accommodation for you or your guests at the same time as booking the venue or soon thereafter.
Please note that rooms will not be held until the accommodation deposit is received.
To secure your accommodation a 50% deposit is required and normal cancellation terms apply.

We accept all major credit cards except American Express and Diners Club.
Full and final settlement of account (accommodation, bar tab, etc) to be paid on departure
